NATO Science for Peace and Security (SPS) Programme

The NATO Science for Peace and Security (SPS) Programme promotes security-related practical cooperation based on scientific research, innovation and knowledge exchange within NATO’s wide network of partner countries.

It connects scientists, experts and officials from Allied and partner countries to address security challenges, such as cyber defence, counter-terrorism or defence against CBRN agents; to support NATO-led missions and operations; to foster the development of security-related advanced technologies such as sensors and detectors, nanotechnologies, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs); and to address human and social aspects of security such as the implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security (UNSCR 1325).

The main objective of DIMLAB project (SPS G5571) is to heighten chemical and biological threat response capability through deployable field laboratories and to strengthen cooperation in the fight against terrorism in the framework of NATO.

DIMLAB project proposes to design and build a chemical & biological laboratory by using the latest advances in nano & bio technology, under the guidance of experienced end users and validation by a reference defence laboratory. The project will focus on developing a working CB turn-key solution and sharing knowledge and experience. This is a joint Spanish, Tunisian and Moroccan initiative involving young scientists in academia guided by CBRN experienced end users.

The DIMLAB project is supported by the NATO SPS Progamme.

Smiths Detection, a global leader in threat detection and security screening technologies, and a business of Smiths Group, today announces that its state-of-the-art IONSCAN 600 detectors will be tested by the Polish railway, PKP Group. The six-month pilot, the first in Poland, will help develop standards for future anti-terrorism and anti-sabotage systems, strengthening the protection of critical infrastructure. The equipment was loaned by the Directorate General for Home Affairs and Migration (DG HOME) of the European Commission, which initiated the project. The IONSCAN 600 detectors will be used to assess and develop security practices for the railway system, with a [...]

Crossject’s ZENEO Auto-Injector's usability further demonstrated in extreme HAZMAT conditions

Crossject, a specialty pharma company developing the award-winning needle-free ZENEO® auto-injector to deliver life-saving medicines in emergency situations, has successfully completed a human factors study under extreme stress conditions. The test, designed to simulate a chemical attack zone or a field hospital setting, included disorienting factors such as sirens and flashlights in the dark. Study participants were equipped with HAZMAT protection, including full-body CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear) suits and gloves covered in soap, simulating the worst-case scenario for first responders. All 75 untrained participants successfully activated the ZENEO® Midazolam on five adult or child mannequins simulating victims of a [...]
